Newsletter Jan 3rd, 2024

Hello Friends,

Welcome to our annual newsletter! It’s been a while since we’ve emailed, but we are trying to keep traffic to a minimum and go with an annual update (unless something really big happens!)

So, here’s a quick update from our front lines: When You Wish Upon A Cloud – This short story is now available on our website and was a finalist at the Owl Canyon Press Short Story Hackathon 5 (2023) [AKA Tag-Teamathon] based out of Denver, Colorado. The story will be published along with other finalists in an anthology by Owl Canyon Press in 2024.

Contest rules: Owl Canyon Press provides the 1st paragraph and two alternate 50th paragraphs with writing team co-authors taking turns writing a common/shared story from paragraphs 2 through 49 (thus the tag-team handle) and then spinning off two versions using the two alternative 50th paragraphs. The story must satisfy both alternate 50th ending paragraphs!

Call Game is the working title of our latest novel. Drawing heavily from our day jobs, we’ve crafted a medical thriller that we hope will keep you on the edge of your seats right until “The End.”

Here’s the premise:

A snowed-in Northern Michigan Hospital on the eve of Thanksgiving.
Inside, previously stable patients are dying off, one-by-one.
Two on-call docs team up to unravel the mystery and save lives before becoming the next victims in an intensely claustrophobic game of cat-and-mouse.

We will be going the traditional publishing route with this one and will begin looking for an agent in the new year.

If you are interested in beta reading, please email us on our website.

The Epsilon Project – Some of you may have heard of the massive solar flare that erupted at 12:02 PM on December 14th resulting in a two hour disruption of radio communications in certain parts of the globe. If not, you can read about it here:

https://www.universetoday.com/164879/we-just-had-the-strongest-solar-flare-in-the-current-solar-cycle/

With this nudge from the universe and solar max on the horizon for 2024/25, we know it is time to revisit our epic Epsilon Project. We are floating a few ideas on the best way to get our story out into the world. One of them is to reorganize it into a series format consisting of 7 or 8 small, easily digestible installments to be released on a quarterly basis until the story is complete. Small and easily digestible feels key in this digital day and age.

In addition, we will release the story on our website, one chapter at a time, along with some behind the scenes bonus material.

In April, Graham released the fourth book in his Amazon bestselling Covid Odyssey series called End In Sight. Written towards the end of the pandemic, it documents further snapshots in time of the pandemic as told through the escapism adventures of ER physician, Dr. Mark Spencer. Available everywhere books are sold.

Death is not always the end …

While hiking the deep woods of Lake Superior Park in Northern Ontario, an innocent man is shot and killed. Somehow straddling the world of the living and the dead, he realizes he has until sunset to make peace with the loss of his loved ones and make sense of the reasons behind his death.

The Arabic translation of A Covid Odyssey is also available now through Amazon (Ebook) and IngramSpark (print). This was a long and complicated road that’s nicely laid out in an article written by Chris Belsito:https://www.sootoday.com/arts-culture/local-physicians-fictional-novella-translated-into-arabic-5552498

Laura has been working on short fiction. Amazingly (at least to Laura), some of her pieces have made it into literary journals and fiction websites. She will be bringing some of her work onto the twodocswriting.com website, so please check it out if you have the time. And that’s a wrap for 2023! Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support. It takes a team to be successful, including editors, proofreaders, graphic artists, PR specialists, journalists, beta readers, and of course, you, the reader.

Remember, if you’ve read something you enjoyed, please leave a rating/review (Amazon, Goodreads, etc…). It really helps!

Sincerely,

Graham Elder & Laura Cody
